Jane Dembner rides her bike to work everyday that the weather will allow. It’s a 6 mile ride each way. She no longer feels the need to go the gym, she says.
“I have gotten my exercise.”
In April 2016 Howard County adopted its first bicycle master plan, which will develop a countywide system to connect riding routes and bicycle amenities.
“People are interested in living and working in places that are bike and walk friendly,” he says. Improving walkability will help businesses and the economy.
Consequently, Howard County offers a bicycling program called Cycle2Health that offers group rides to three different levels. The rides are designed for retired residents and provides a healthy social outlet.
